UPDATE 8:31 A.M. EST: Joe Perry’s rep has spoken out after the legend was rushed to the hospital after performing with Billy Joel at New York’s Madison Square Garden Saturday night. According to the representative, Joe is “alert and responsive”:
“Following a guest performance during Billy Joel’s show last night at Madison Square Garden, Joe Perry experienced shortness of breath and was treated backstage by paramedics who gave the guitarist oxygen and used a tracheal tube to clear his airway before taking him to a hospital. This morning Perry remains in the hospital where he is alert and responsive. The Aerosmith guitarist will be unable to appear today at Rock And Roll Fantasy Camp in Florida and apologizes to those attending. Perry is expected to return to the road later this month.”
Sending good thoughts to Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry today!
The guitar and rock music legend was apparently wheeled out of Madison Square Garden on a stretcher last night just minutes after performing with Billy Joel at the famed arena.
According to eyewitnesses, Joe had just finished Walk This Way with Billy and was walking back to his dressing room when he collapsed and “looked terrible.”
Paramedics rushed to the scene and, per TMZ, reportedly worked on Perry for more than 40 minutes in his dressing room before eventually taking him to the hospital. They even put a tracheal tube down his throat to clear an airway!
Sources say Perry has been dealing with congestion in his lungs, and that he’s been having “breathing issues for the last few weeks and it came to a head last night.”
The good news is he’s apparently doing well in the hospital right now, though, and he could be discharged as early as Sunday afternoon, per those sources. Here’s hoping!!
So scary! Our thoughts are with him — get well soon, Joe!!
