Jason Momoa shaved his beard and people are losing their minds.

Photo by Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images When Jason Momoa shaves, people take notice. The Aquaman actor recently shaved his beard to raise awareness on the importance of recycling aluminum. And spoiler: his chin is just as chiseled as we all thought it would be. Normally, changing facial hair would be the very least someone could do to raise awareness for a cause. (Wasn’t No-shave November supposed to help out cancer research in some way?) But people are freaking out about finally being able to see Momoa’s chin, so shaving is the best way he could have raised awareness for recycling. Everyone noticed. We’re all listening now. 75% of aluminum is still in circulation even though 100% of it is recyclable, as …

How the Irish backstop emerged as May’s Brexit nemesis

Ireland was streets ahead of the UK when it came to planning for Britains exit The possibility of the UK leaving the European Union blared like an air-raid siren in Government Buildings, the quadrangle of Portland stone and Wicklow granite in central Dublin that houses the taoiseachs office. Officials summoned politicians, diplomats, business leaders, farming groups, academics and others to the complex off Upper Merrion Street. The guests climbed a beechwood staircase with a stained glass window, My Four Green Fields, representing Irelands four provinces. At the improvised summit all agreed that Britains exit from the EU would present an unprecedented threat to Irish interests. They agreed to meet monthly to brainstorm discussions which led to a task force, a …

Sarah Huckabee Sanders: Congress Not ‘Smart Enough’ To Understand Trump’s Taxes

Donald Trump’s tax returns, White House press secretary “I don’t think Congress, particularly not this group of congressmen and women, are smart enough to look through the thousands of pages that I would assume President Trump’s taxes will be,” Sanders told “Fox News Sunday.” House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal (D-Mass.) wrote a letter to the Treasury Department, which oversees the IRS, earlier this month to request six years of Trump’s personal and business tax information. On Saturday, Sanders on Sunday would not say whether Trump will encourage the IRS to hand over his tax returns to the House committee. Sanders said Trump has no plans to release his taxes to the public while they’re being audited. The …

Prep for Your Toughest Races Like a Master Marathoner

On Wednesday, I spoke with Mebrahtom Keflezighi, perhaps the most successful American marathoner of all time. He won the New York City marathon in 2009 and the Boston Marathon in 2014. He won an Olympic silver medal and was internationally competitive until the age of 42, in a sport where people tend to peak much younger than that. On Monday, he will be the grand marshall of the Boston Marathon. Keflezighi possesses a wealth of running wisdom, much of which he shares in his book 26 Marathons. We spoke mainly about the science of running fast in difficult conditions and about how to keep a career going as one ages. Nicholas Thompson: As someone who ran lots of difficult courses …

Trump Gets His First Official GOP Challenger With Bill Weld Announcement

Bill Weld officially entered the 2020 Republican presidential primary on Monday, giving “I really think if we have six more years of the same stuff we’ve had out of the White House the last two years, that would be a political tragedy and I would fear for the republic,” Weld said during an appearance on CNN. “I would be ashamed of myself if I didn’t raise my hand and run.” “The existence of a credible challenger itself has been deadly,” said Fergus Cullen, a former New Hampshire GOP chairman who opposes Trump’s reelection. “Is there a market for an alternative? The answer is clearly yes. But how big is that market? Is it 10 percent? Is it 20 percent? Is it …

Scientists Drill For Oldest Ice On Earth To Unlock Mystery Of Ancient Earths Changing Climate

European scientists from 10 countries have spent years scouring the Antarctic ice sheet with one ambition in mind: to drill for the oldest-ever ice core. Now, they have zeroed in on just the spot. The team have chosen Little Dome C – one of the coldest, most barren places on Earth. For the next five years, they will drill for a 1.5-million-year-old ice core – a frozen timepiece of Earth’s climatic past. The news was announced at the annual conference of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) in Vienna.  Their mission, called “Beyond EPICA-Oldest Ice”, will take place 30 kilometers (18.5 miles) away from the Concordia Research Station in what is a two-hour snowmobile ride to work. The team finalized their location using radar …

‘Institutes of Technology’ locations named

But Labour said the plans were too small-scale and would not help the “overwhelming majority” of students in technical education. Vocational training has often been seen as being underserved by the education system, with more status attached to young people taking an academic pathway, through GCSEs, A-levels and university. Training gap The idea of introducing a network of Institutes of Technology is to create a high-quality route to gain skills and technical qualifications, comparable to going to university. They will begin opening from the autumn, supported by funding of £170m. SpaceX Lands All 3 Boosters of the World’s Most Powerful Rocket

The Falcon Heavy rocket is many things, but “timely” is not one of them. Delay after delay have plagued its development. And this week, the same fate befell its launch schedule. Originally slated to lift off last Sunday, the Falcon Heavy’s first commercial launch was thrice delayed due to unfavorable weather conditions before it finally left launchpad 39-A at Kennedy Space Center today. But it was worth the wait. The minute the launch window opened on Thursday, the rocket boosted its payload, a Saudi Arabian telecommunications satellite, toward geostationary orbit. Even from across several miles of water, the power of 5 million pounds of thrust was enough to rattle your ribcage. One nearly had to shout to be heard over …

Mr. Singh caught a teenager stealing from his store. His response has gone viral for all the right reasons.

Most of us have a knee-jerk reaction when we see a crime taking place: call the cops. It’s often the smart move to protect the safety of those in the immediate area, but sometimes it’s unnecessary. Especially when the consequences of being arrested might far outweigh the seriousness of the crime. A 7-11 owner in Toledo, Ohio is being praised for not calling the cops on a teenager that he caught stealing from his store. Instead, he saw the crime as an opportunity to practice kindness. When a 7-11 owner spotted what appeared to be a shoplifter, he confronted the man, asking him, “Why are you doing it?” Yet with one answer, suspicion gave way to sympathy and kindheartedness. Dean …
