Kelly Clarkson Defends 16-Year-Old ‘Voice’ Winner Against Nasty Troll! – Perez Hilton

Kelly Clarkson comes to Chevel Shepherd‘s rescue!

During Memorial Day weekend, The Voice coach and her season 15 mentee — who won the NBC singing competition show in 2018 — appeared at the Indy 500 and respectively performed the National Anthem and God Bless America.

Unfortunately, one Twitter user was not pleased with how God Bless America was sung.

On Sunday, the troll tweeted at Clarkson, writing:

“@kellyclarkson Indy 500 – Absolute WORST version of God Bless America I’ve ever heard!!! Sing it the way it was written, without all the slow whining, the ‘stylizing,’ the chirps and warbles. Want to know how to sing it right? Listen to Kate Smith’s version.’”

That same day, the My Life Would Suck Without You songstress clapped back, and defended Shepherd’s rendition! The 37-year-old penned:

“I didn’t actually sing that song today but the 16 yr old girl that did, nailed it. Also, think about the fact that U signed in online & took the time 2 drag a 16 yr old girl. Really think about it because Ur showing the worst side of U & I have faith that you’re cooler than this.”

Kelly, you rule!

After Shepherd won The Voice, she told reporters after the show:

“I am very blessed… I am super excited… It’s been crazy just getting the opportunity… Not many teenagers, not many 16-year-olds, get the opportunity to stand on The Voice stage and sing on national television for the world and get mentored by Kelly Clarkson and Mariah Carey and Thomas Rhett. It’s just been awesome, and it’s been life-changing.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time Clarkson has set the record straight on social media.

As we reported earlier this month, she shut down fake reports that she used a fad diet to stay in shape. She exclaimed:

“Other fake news that’s going around about me is that I’ve been taking weird pills 4 weight loss or doing weird fad diets. All of this is not true. I ain’t got time 4 all that. I eat the same stuff I always have. It’s all just made w/different flours/sugars/ingredients. #DrGundry”

Additionally, Clarkson blasted a fake account who used her image to bully fans:

“This is fake news & not me. What is wrong with people? I mean, I’m way too busy to be sitting around creating fake accounts. I mean, people if you’re that bored go ahead & do the world a service and maybe read a book & better yourself rather than be weird & lie to people”
